No-makeup Makeup

Untitled-1

I figured I should start doing something productive around here so here’s my first tutorial on this blog: no-makeup makeup, aka what I throw on my face every day. It takes 10 minutes to do at most and it ensures that I don’t leave the house looking like the hot mess I am.

To start things off, it’s crucial to make sure your face is clean, happy and hydrated before you start smashing various cosmetic products on it. Here’s my ugly but makeup- and dirt-free mug.

The next thing to do is color correct however you normally do and get whatever foundation you use on. My skin looks pretty good today so I just went straight to foundation, but if you have a particularly bad zit (or zits plural) or some redness then you may want to put some concealer on top before you even look at foundation.

Anways, my weapon of choice is BB cream because lord knows my dry face needs it. I use my finger to dot it on like so:

And then I blend it all in with my fingers. A foundation brush works too but I mean, fingers. Also, I put on some powder foundation after blending. I forgot to take a picture of just the BB cream so the blending and the powder are one step now.

Boom flawless

Next are my eyebrows, which I usually do first, but for the sake of traditional makeup application I saved them for now. I have a very strict process when it comes to my eyebrows, also the right one got waxed really weirdly for some reason so I’m overdrawing it a tiny bit to even it out.

First thing: I draw a line across the top of my eyebrow with a dark brown eyeliner pencil. You can obviously use a brow pencil, I just don’t understand why I would buy a brow pencil when my eyeliner pencil is perfectly capable of drawing on my eyebrows.

Then I blend it out with an eyebrow brush. The angled kind.

This is pretty much the end result, but because of their blendability eyeliner pencils aren’t going to last very long. So I throw the lighter powder in my brow powder compact on top. I use Anastasia Beverly Hills’ eyebrow powder and let me tell you – even though their Dipbrow gets a ton of praise their eyebrow powder is a force to be reckoned with. The stuff doesn’t move at all, hence why I’m putting it on top of the pencil stuff that I did.

The final step in my eyebrows’ journey to visibility is brow gel! One coat of colored brow gel keeps the hairs from doing weird stuff. It also lengthens the hair which I desperately need.

You can actually see individual hairs now. We are truly a species of innovation. Here I am with actual eyebrows!

On some days if I’m in a rush or if i just feel lazy I’ll leave it at that. BUT some days I just want to punish myself some more. In that case, I keep going with blush. I own one blush, Nyx Terracotta, and it is truly everything.

I only look mostly dead now!

Now I’m not really a contouring-on-a-daily-basis person because I don’t understand why you’d want to do that to yourself every day. Contouring is pain. However, strobing is the most glorious makeup trend I have ever seen. I was “strobing” before it became a trend because I just didn’t feel like contouring every day, so now that it’s cool I will readily admit that I put 10 pounds of highlighter on my face almost every day.  I concentrate most of this on my cheekbones but I dab some on my nose and chin too. Colourpop Wisp is my go-to currently because the color and formula are truly a gift from makeup God.

Glorious shininess!

Personally I believe that there is no such thing as too much highlighter but it may be wise to be a bit more conservative here since after all the point is for you to look like you don’t have makeup on.

The only thing to do now is lipstick! A nude or MLBB color is your friend here. I rotate through Nyx’s Ever lip liner and Abu Dhabi Soft Matte Lip Cream for this. In this case I picked Ever. A clear or slightly tinted gloss would work here too but I have a vendetta against super glossy finishes most of the time so no. Just no.

And that’s it! You are now ready to go out into the world looking like you have no makeup when you really have like 10 pounds of it on. My methods differ from other people’s and it’s by no means the only way to do it. I am just a vessel to help you figure out what you like to do if you want to think about it that way. I hope you enjoyed this weird and sad attempt at a tutorial!
